Travel Juneau Partners –

Seatrade, a major cruise industry trade show, reminds us that the opening of tour season is right around the corner. UnCruise will commence Southeast sailings out of Juneau on April 15 and our first big ship of the year, the Ruby Princess, arrives April 30.

As you may be aware, Dan Blanchard of UnCruise Adventures is working to pull the official opening of the travel season into mid-April. Known as “Alaska’s Spring Awakening,” this new campaign has led to nearly sold-out tours for that time frame. Further, like UnCruise, many local retailers report that not only is April the new May, but that “May is the new June,” meaning that early ship arrivals bring not just challenges, but early opportunities for local businesses. We encourage our partners to consider opening April 13-14 to greet guests heading out on the Wilderness Adventurer.

Travel Juneau is also working with CBJ to greet passengers aboard Ruby Princess when it docks at 11AM on Monday, April 30. Mayor Ken Koelsch reached out to TJ to organize a community welcome, and we’re happy to do our part since a first ship celebration can leave a huge impression.  If you’d like to participate in the welcome celebration, please contact Anna Edgerly-Moore at 586-1740 or at

Regards, and thank you for being part of Travel Juneau!
