Travel Juneau assists the BBC and PBS with Wild Alaska Live

Travel Juneau is thrilled to be part of one of the worst-kept secrets in town – the live broadcast of PBS’ Wild Alaska Live from Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area, hosted by Chris and Martin Kratt of Wild Kratts and Kratt’s Creatures. This will include two live transmissions per broadcast day, one for the BBC’s European and Asian markets, one for the PBS national market, with a total estimated viewership of 4 billion viewers. While stories in the series will include various parts of the state, I can’t tell you how happy we are that the companies selected Juneau as the destination for the live broadcast.

BBC Producers Adam White and Gareth Wildman, and Production Manager Anna McGill, contacted Travel Juneau last fall to begin our part of the conversation. Travel Juneau provided information and referrals, assisted with logistics (including parking permits and housing for the 110 staff and crew!), and helped to ensure that the BBC had everything they needed.

Our work with media and production companies helps expose a wide audience – sometimes worldwide – to Juneau’s natural, arts, cultural, and culinary experiences. Enhanced through the generosity of our members, our levels of support are tailored to the needs of the company and to our capacity. And we commit to a project only after fully vetting the opportunity, determining the overall value to Juneau, and our ability to assist.

I invite you to join our 4 billion new friends by tuning in to KTOO on Sunday, July 23, Wednesday, July 26, and finally on Sunday, July 30, to watch Wild Alaska Live!  Thank you for being a valued member of Travel Juneau!
