City Hall and most CBJ Offices will be closed Tuesday, July 4. Regular office hours will resume on Wednesday, July 5.
Douglas Soapbox Derby: The Soapbox Challenge will take place on both the 3rd and 4th of July. Starting July 3rd at 12pm, St. Ann’s Avenue from Summers Street to 3rd Street will be closed to vehicular traffic. The road will remain closed to traffic until approximately 9:00pm on July 4th. During this time, the road will be barricaded and both edges of St. Ann’s will be lined with tires. Any vehicle parked on St. Ann’s Ave. from Summers Street to 3rd Street during this closure will be cited and impounded at the owner’s expense.
Glenn Frick Memorial Run: The Southeast Road Runners will be conducting the 1-mile “Glenn Frick Memorial Run” on July 4th, approximately 1⁄2 hour prior to the start of the Juneau 4th of July parade. The race will follow the same route as the parade (see route below), beginning on Egan Drive at Gold Creek Bridge.
At approximately 10:25 am, the run will begin with the racers being led by 3 cyclists. The race will last approximately 20 minutes, and all racers will be clear of the roadway by 10:50am.
Juneau Parade: The Juneau 4th of July parade will begin at 11am at the Dept. of Labor building on West 8th Street. The parade route is as follows:
The parade will begin at Egan Drive and West 8th Street. It will travel inbound on Egan Drive via the outbound lanes to Main Street. It will turn left and travel up Main St. The parade will then turn right onto Front Street and continue on Front Street traveling against the normal flow of traffic. It will turn right onto Franklin Street and travel against the normal flow of traffic to the traffic circle. The parade will then head outbound on Egan Dr. via the inbound lanes to West 8th Street. Traffic will be closed on all streets and parking lots on the parade route beginning at approximately 10:25am and will reopen at approximately 1:30pm. All streets will be posted “No Parking” in effect from 8am to 3pm. Any vehicles parked on the parade routes or marked as “No Parking” areas will be impounded at the owner’s expense, and vehicles will NOT be available for pick up until Wednesday, July 5th.
Douglas Parade: The Douglas parade will be held starting at 2pm. The parade route is starting from 3rd Street at “I” Street to Savikko Park Road. 3rd Street will be posted “No Parking” from 11am until 5pm. During this period of time, traffic will be routed into Douglas on 4th Street and out of Douglas on 2nd Street. 2nd Street will be posted as One Way Northbound and 4th Street will be posted as One Way Southbound. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Streets will be posted as “No Parking.” The Douglas Boat Harbor parking lot will be available for parking.
Capital Transit & Care-A-Van: A reminder to Capital Transit and Care-A-Van passengers. Buses and vans will not be operating on Tuesday, July 4th, in recognition of the Independence Day Holiday. Full service will resume on Wednesday, July 5th. The contact number for Capital Transit is 789-6901 and Care-A-Van is 463-6194.
CBJ Docks & Harbors: On July 4th , the Statter Harbor (Auke Bay) Office will be open 8am-4:30pm. Statter Harbor field staff can be reached after hours via cell phone 321-0935/VHF Radio. The Aurora Harbor Office will be closed, but Aurora Harbor field staff will be available via cell phone 321-1115/VHF Radio. The Port Field Office will be open 8am-4:30pm (closed 12-1pm for lunch). Dock field staff can be reached after hours via cell phone 321-4926/VHF Radio. The Port Director’s Office will be closed. The Douglas Harbor launch ramp will be congested due to the celebration and parade, therefore, the use of the ramp may be restricted.
Juneau International Airport: Open as usual for the traveling public. The Management and Badging offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4 and reopened on Wednesday, July 5.
Juneau Police Department: Police Officers and Public Safety Dispatchers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. JPD’s administrative offices will be closed from 4:30pm Monday evening (July 3) until Wednesday (July 5) at 8:00am.
Juneau-Douglas City Museum: Open on July 3 (9am-6pm) and Closed on July 4 and will be open regular hours on Wednesday, July 5th.
Municipal Libraries: The Juneau, Valley, and Douglas Public Libraries will be closed at 5 pm on Monday, July 3rd and all day on Tuesday, July 4th, in observation of the Independence Day holiday. The libraries will be open regular hours on Wednesday, July 5th. The book drops will be locked from 5 pm on July 3rd until 8 am on July 5th.
Parks & Recreation Facilities:
- Centennial Hall Convention Center: Will be OPEN 10:30am-2pm Tuesday, July 4.
- Zach Gordon Youth Center Closed on July 3 & 4
- Augustus Brown Pool and Dimond Park Aquatic Center Open July 3 regular hours. Closed July 4. Facilities will open for regular hours July 5.
